Short-form team golf for juniors new to the game. Six holes, six players, two-person scramble - a fun, inclusive, low-pressure introduction to the sport.
GolfSixes League is a development project designed to enable participants who are beginners or new to golf to learn, play and progress through short-form team golf.
It is a collaborative initiative driven by The R&A, Ryder Cup European Development Trust (RCEDT), Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG), Ladies European Tour (LET), DP World Tour, The Golf Foundation and national partners.
It enables young beginners to play golf in teams of six over six holes at the same time as they learn the game using driving ranges or practice facilities.
GolfSixes is not just about competition - it’s about creating community, learning values, and helping young people take their first steps in the best game ever invented.
First swings, first lessons. Off-course GolfSixes introduces the team format before the on-course game.
The flagship League: teams of six, two-person scramble over six holes on the course.
GolfNines is the follow-on: nine holes, own ball - the bridge to full competitive play.
Juniors become members, join the club calendar, and stick with the sport.
The format is intentionally short to allow beginners to enjoy their golf. Six holes is a good number to achieve this. Two players play together as a team, taking their best shot each time: that means every shot matters but no one is on their own.
The team format means every junior is part of a result - no one walks off having lost on their own. Pressure stays low; participation stays high.
All abilities welcome. The two-person scramble lets a beginner play alongside a more experienced teammate, both contributing.
Short rounds, friendly settings, a clear pathway from range to course to club. Federations see juniors becoming members.
The programme works best with juniors aged 8 - 15, but it adapts. Mini League starts younger; GolfNines is the natural step up.
On-course League uses standard clubs. Off-course and Mini League formats supply soft equipment so total beginners can play.
Each team of six plays the six holes as three pairs, choosing to play from where their best shot ends up until a shot is holed. Pair scores over the six holes combine to a team score.
Yes. Maximum score per hole is 10, air-shots do not count and throw the ball out of a bunker when both players have tried to get out twice each.
National PGAs and Federations licence the format from CPG, which provides support and scoring platform. Then the PGAs and Federations deliver it through their existing club and, on some occasions, schools networks.
